Mentoring and teaching future journalists

I became inspired to write 'One City, One Shot' after mentoring students at UC Santa Barbara's Communication Career Day in 2025. After 15 years in news careers, including print and TV news, I felt I had valuable advice on local stories and community storytelling to share. I also remembered the uncertainty I felt as a student and wanted to help future journalists navigate those challenges in any small way I could, especially as they pursue journalism jobs in the field of news reporting.
